Health & Safety
In the Construction business, keeping people safe from harm is of paramount importance.
Company Mission Statement:
“Our goal is to educate, promote, and encourage the practice of safety while reducing unsafe acts and hazardous conditions for the good of all, directly and indirectly, involved with Schwing Stetter (UK) Limited”
Schwing Stetter's dedicated Health & Safety manager, Ray Perry's job is to make sure Schwing Stetter (UK) is a safe and healthy place to work.
There are many aspects to keeping a workplace safe, especially one using heavy machinery with regular cutting and welding going on. It is important to not only have systems in place that ensure safe working, but that staff are aware of and follow those practices.
Discussing potential problems with staff, who are after all the most knowledgeable people regarding the workplace, is a very good way not only of identifying potential problems before they happen, but also of encouraging staff to sign up to safer practices overall.
Health and Safety should not be about the derided "elf 'n' safety" can't-do culture. Some of the myths around Health and Safety have been dispelled here. It is about knowing and minimizing the risks associated with what is inherently a dangerous workplace.
Regular staff training in different aspects of Health and Safety is also important. Some of the safety training that staff here have already completed is:
- Using Disc Cutters
- Fire Safety
- Safe Driving and Vehicle use (FORS certificate)
- Electrical Safety
- DSEAR Training
- Defibrillator training
- Manual Handling
- Working at Height
